Five Common Security Problems Over Thanksgiving Weekend

The holidays are officially here. You’ve got enough going on that you don’t need to be worrying about theft, too. Whether a residence or business, we here at Momo Locksmith find ourselves helping our customers with the following five security concerns every holiday season. These can be concerns all year, but they seem to amplify around Thanksgiving when people really start their holiday shopping.

1. Break-Ins or Entry by Stolen Key

Thieves keep an eye out for vulnerabilities throughout the holiday season. If there is a way they can break into your home or business, or if they can steal your keys to let themselves in, they will. Now is a good time for a home or business security check to determine where you are vulnerable and fix it. If your keys get stolen, have the locks changed immediately.

2. Front Porch Package Theft

One way you are vulnerable is online shopping. With this becoming the method of choice for holiday shopping, especially on Cyber Monday, burglars keep an eye on front porches. It’s quick and easy to steal delivered packages from your front porch, and holiday robbers take advantage of this each year. Consider outdoor security cameras to discourage theft.

3. Locking Your Keys in the Car

This isn’t so much of a security problem as it is an annoyance. Many drivers lock their keys in their cars when they’re traveling over Thanksgiving weekend or throughout the December holidays. Don’t panic if this happens to you, unless your vehicle is running. If you’re in New York City when you do this, just give us a call and we’ll get you into your car without damaging it.

4. Locking Yourself Out of Your House

Hiding an extra key outside in case you get locked out of your house isn’t always a good idea. It can be easy for robbers to find the key and use it. If you get back from your Thanksgiving travels exhausted and not ready for Monday, you may accidentally lock yourself out of the house while unloading your car. Call us if you do and we’ll dispatch an emergency locksmith right away.

5. Old, Insecure Locks

Home and business invasions increase during the holidays, especially if your business is retail. If you have old locks on your doors, it’s time for an upgrade before we’re deep into the holidays. Homes should consider deadbolts on all doors and new locks for the windows, too. Businesses will find an access control system to be very secure over the holidays and all year long.

Located in The Bronx and serving all of NYC and Westchester County, Momo Locksmith is the only locksmith you need to keep you safe during the holiday season.
