Once the police have cleared your home and taken a report, you need to start taking a close look at anything that has been stolen. Write down a comprehensive list of the items that are missing. If you happen to have receipts for what was stolen, gather those, too. This will make filing a claim with your insurance company much easier. After you have a list, you should file a claim with your homeowner’s insurance. Depending on your policy, they can replace some or most of the value of the items that were taken.
